Whats In My Kit: Stylist Addition

Are you curious how everything looks JUST RIGHT in photos? Let’s take a peek into my bag when I’m on set.

These items have saved me when making each project picture-perfect.

MUST HAVE STYLING KIT ITEMS:

Double Sides Tape : Hollywood fashion tape is a lifesaver (on more than one occasion) this tape can hold fabrics in place without damage.

There hasn’t been a time on set where I haven’t needed fashion tape. As we fashion girlies know, the fabric doesn’t always want to stay put. If you are an aspiring wardrobe stylist then this must-have item is 100% necessary for your kit.

Lint Shaver: This lint shaver from Amazon is durable and rechargable, it’s perfect for shaving off lint, pills, and renewing your fabric.

When wearing clothes we all come across the inevitable issue, PILLING, all the things. Luckily, this lint shaver has been a game-changer when it comes to renewing clothes onset or personal clients. Regardless of the type of job, everyone can use a lint shaver in their styling kit.

Lint Roller: Amazon has a great value pack of lint rollers, easy to help take off hair, lint, crumbs, you name it. Scotch-Brite is a fan favorite lint roller!

Rubber Bands: This bag of goodies is perfect for my classic “rubber band trick”, or tightening clothes, the options are endless.

Rubber bands are an essential piece to the styling kit, it’s a perfect accessory to tightening your belt loops, and raising the sleeves of your jackets and blazers. In my opinion, rubber bands can completely transform a look, and are always needed on set. Check out my Rubber Band hack to see how you can use this in your everyday.

Spanx: The ultimate girl’s best friend, perfect for smoothing out our curves and making us feel more confident in ourselves.

Every woman deserves to feel confident each time she steps out the door. Spanx is here to help our clients whether on the set of a photoshoot or commercial. As stylists it’s our jobs to make our clients feel confident and make them feel their best, that’s why I always have shapewear on hand.

Clothing Pins: This pack from Amazon helps any stylist in a pinch!

As a stylist, we know that clothes are made to fit the masses not tailored to each individual. So a hack or tip that I have learned to help make clothes fit, is to use a clothing pin and help our clients look tailored and polished for the camera.

Hairspray: we can’t go wrong with the hairspray that was sponsored in Miss Congeniality am I right?

You may wonder why we should have hairspray in our kits because it’s always good to have a travel-size hairspray and help take care of flyaways. When you’re on set you want to be prepared for any kind of climate, or weather, and hairspray helps make sure everything holds together.

Shoe Insoles: These are the perfect shoe insoles for even the highest of heels!

In fashion, we are no strangers to high heels or uncomfortable shoes. Therefore as a stylist, we are here to ease the pain (but actually), we want our models, clients, and talent to feel at ease when walking in even the most uncomfortable shoes, this is why shoe insoles are a MUST.

Steamer: a handheld, on-the-go steamer is your biggest MUST HAVE.

Last but NOT least on our list of things to add to our kit, is a handheld steamer! In the industry and as stylists we are always on the go and have clothes for days in garment bags. Clothes naturally get wrinkled, especially being hauled around town. Therefore, it is ESSENTIAL to have a steamer on hand to make those pieces look stunning and polished.

Whether you are a seasoned stylist, new to the industry, or interested to know more about the profession, I hope you found SBC’s “What’s in my Kit” issue helpful. After all, we learn best from our experiences and each other!
